Technicolor Japan
description:Our inaugural exhibition aims to capture the elegance of 'Old Japan', seen through the lens of photographers living and working during the late Edo period. Technicolour Japan features a selected group of albumen prints by the most significant photographers of the time period, which have been reproduced into new print editions. These prints, which tell the story of Japanese Victorian-era photography, have been meticulously replicated with their original look and feel. By displaying the images in their original look, the intention is to highlight the vibrant colors that evoked extreme emotions in viewers over one hundred years ago.As an interesting contrast, Vue Privée invited five contemporary artists to put their own spin on these 19th century images. Coming from distinctively different backgrounds and practices; Justin Lee, Jamie Paul, Craig Redman, Steve Lawler and FleeCircus each choose one photograph as his or her inspiration for the new work. |
