Shadowlife: Works by contemporary Australian Indigenous artists
description:Shadowlife is Asialink’s latest touring exhibition in Asia featuring the works of 9 indigenous Australian artists including Christian Thompson, Destiny Beacon, Vernon Ah Kee and the late Michael Riley in contemporary photography, moving images and installation. In Shadowlife, each artist portrays figures of others or themselves, choreographing their own stories through the use of photography and other new media, not just recording traditions of age old cultural practices but also interpreting them in contemporary times, seeking a kind of personal truth and challenge against rooted perceptions of race, culture and creed. Shadowlife is curated by Djon Mundine OAM and Natalie King, the show comes to Singapore after Bangkok and Kaohsiung this August and is proudly organised by NAFA and Asialink with the support of the Australian High Commission in Singapore. |
