Apropos: Jeremy Sharma
description:"Apropos" is an exploratory exhibition, curated by Dr Charles Merewether, that takes us into the studio of contemporary painter Jeremy Sharma. The exhibition focuses on the past two years of his work, selecting seven distinct bodies of work, which explore the interplay between painting, photography, object and image, in the mediums of enamels, lacquer, beeswax and oils."As the exhibition seeks to present, Sharma's work takes risks, explores, teases, extends and pushes. Or, it starts again, beginning elsewehere, turning and returning at a different angle if only to move by virtue of erasing, scratching, layering, dis/closing and covering. ... This exhibition offers a space of interplay between these seven types of work, an exploration of these intersections, of their tensions and contradictions, the desire and fusion of aspiration and gentle yet persistent obsession of an artist at work." - Curatorial statement, Dr Charles Merewether |
