PANORAMA: Recent art from contemporary Asia
description:The world we live in is changing at an unprecedented pace. Cities have become more globalised, & cultures melt into each other, while urbanisation has transformed once familiar landscapes beyond recognition. Local communities & localities have responded with re-assertions of identity & local distinctiveness. Debates & discussions over issues of tradition, cultural authenticity, the meaning of nations & nationalism are taking place in various localities across the globe, & at ‘fiber optic’ speeds through the internet which no longer allow us the possibility of living in isolated silos.Contemporary art is a window allowing us a view or vista into understanding the epochal changes happening around us. The PANORAMA series of exhibitions offers a wide lens to examine our world & allows for a diversity of perspectives, charting issues which are pervading contemporary art-making in Asia today. This first edition of PANORAMA features 23 artists from 8 countries working in various mediums. |
