![]() Lynn Lim, Woods glisten in the night, mixed media, 56 x 56 cm, 2012 Dialogue Among Trees is a collaborative showcase by two visual artists, Tan Chee Wah Terence and Lim Li Yin Lynn. Terence paints solely with Chinese ink on rice paper and Lynn creates with mixed media on paper to put together their personal expression of trees in nature. While trees, with their unique shapes, represent some of nature's most engaging forms, Terence and Lynn see them in different ways. Terence paints trees luscious with leaves; Lynn inclines towards the ones that are bare, almost stripped off their barks. They, however, share the reverence for space and the feeling it can instill in the viewers. Terence’s series of paintings re-examines the relationship between man and nature. The ideas behind the works go beyond the existing issues of environmental destruction to concern more with the moral and ethical aspect of mankind. The unmanageable chaos in this present world is broadly due to the disaster brought about by humans. The paintings lead the viewers back to the origin, where humans are in harmony with nature. In Lynn’s paintings, she observes the way that every tree transforms and goes through its existence uninhibitedly. She admires that each tree seems to have a beautiful soul of its own and embraces its unimpeded process with much grace and exuberance. Terence obtained his Diploma in Fine Art from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1990 and a Bachelor of Art (Design) with major in Multimedia from Curtin University of Technology in 1997. He pursued his Master in Electronic Arts from Middlesex University in 2004. He learned Chinese ink painting from the Singapore painter Tan Oe Pang. Lynn obtained her Diploma in Fine Art from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Art (Fashion Design) from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. She further obtained an MA Design for Textile Futures from Central St Martins, University of Arts London. The exhibition is open Fri – Sun: 1 – 5 pm, and Mon – Thu by appointment only.
