![]() How long have you lived in Singapore? I moved to Singapore in 2002 a bit by chance. I had first hoped to live in Japan, but it did not work out. Things have gone quite well for me here, so I believe that it wasn't really by chance that I ended up in Singapore. How has your work been influenced by living in Singapore? Living in Singapore has definitely inspired my wall painting at Tanglin Camp. Actually it was done "for Singapore". The organic shapes are linked to the tropical climate. Although it took some time to express, I am very much influenced by the environment where I live. I enjoy the lush freedom of nature here. My new work is going in this direction. What has it been like to work on the Singapore Biennale 2006 as an artist doing a wall painting installation and a designer for the advertising campaign, which promoted the SB2006? Have the two projects influenced each other? What "Belief" are you referring to in your wall installation "Occupation Bleue"? The choice of blue reminds me of the blue ink in my ballpoint pen from my school days. It focuses more on the essence or basics, rather than artifacts or effects. It's like the "automatic drawing" or "doodling" that I did on my school notebooks. It has a lot to do with spontaneity and sincerity. Mistakes do not exist for me, you cannot be wrong. It is actually more interesting to use what we call a "mistake" instead of destroying it. Artist Agathe de Bailliencourt was born in Paris in 1974. She has studied at Ecole Boulle in Paris and Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Cergy Pontoise. She is currently living and working in Singapore. Her work has been shown at the Shanghai Youth Biennale, Galerie Catherine & André Hug in Paris and Taksu Gallery in Singapore. Her installation wall painting, "Occupation Bleue" is on view in the SB2006 at Tanglin Camp, until Nov.12th. For more information on the artist, please visit: www.agathedeb.com
